Our volunteers provide a wide range of support as you seek to age in place or recover from an injury, illness, or loss. Please contact our Client Services Manager, Megan Havner (360-468-4446, csm@lihhs.org) if you are interested in learning more or would like to request a LIHHS volunteer.

Help around the home: Volunteers can assist with light housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, errands, wood stacking, trash and recycling pick up, meal preparation, correspondence, and light gardening.

Companionship: Our volunteers provide companionship in a variety of ways – through social visits, reading aloud, taking walks, and sharing hobbies. Volunteers seek to be fully present during their visit and are trained in active listening skills.

Respite for caregivers: A regular visit from one of our volunteers can allow a family member or paid caregiver the opportunity to take care of necessary errands or have time away from caregiving.

Hospice accompaniment: Our volunteers are trained to be a comforting, compassionate presence with clients and their families at the end of life. While we do not provide medical hospice services, our volunteers provide the home support services listed above for patients of Hospice of the Northwest living on Lopez Island.
