“Untitled 2” — Turned Vessel with lid from Local Wood by John Eslinger
With its lighter palette, gentle gray veining, and rounded silhouette, this vessel has a calm, understated presence. It was turned from locally sourced wood by John Eslinger, who began woodturning in 1998 and now works primarily with reclaimed alder, cherry, and willow. A matching hand-turned lid completes the piece, topped with a small seashell that brings a quiet note of Lopez’s shoreline into the work. John’s pieces often highlight subtle grain shifts and the quiet beauty found just beneath the bark, shaped through patient work on the lathe. This vessel and its lid are a lovely example of his eye for form and his appreciation of natural materials.
