“Copper Canyon” Turned Vessel From Local Wood by John Eslinger
Crafted by Lopez artist John Eslinger, this warm, copper-hued vessel highlights the character of locally salvaged wood. Natural cracks and darker inclusions run through the piece, giving it a rugged, sculptural presence without feeling heavy. John has been turning wood since the late 1990s, working with alder, cherry, and willow that would otherwise head to the wood stove. After moving to Lopez in 2018, he continued his practice of revealing “the beauty beneath the bark” through simple, elegant forms like this one.
